Evelyn Snow Walker

December 4, 1922 — May 16, 2011

Evelyn Snow Walker, beloved wife of Ottis Earl Walker and loving mother of Charles Dorian, Eric and David Walker and Cynthia Spencer passed away Monday, May 16, 2011.

Born December 4th, 1922 in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of Ernest and Anne Mae Taylor Snow. An athlete in high school, she was the captain of the girls' basketball team and Girl Guides. She met her future husband Ottis Earl Walker at a sponsored dance for American soldiers. They corresponded over the next four years after which she emigrated to Canada. In 1945, Earl returned from the Pacific War and they were married. She supported his commitment of 'service to country' and became a military wife for the next 30 years. Their life together would take the couple and their growing family from coast to coast, north to south, and back to her beloved Newfoundland. They settled in Owensboro, KY, upon his retirement from the United States Air Force in 1969. She attended First Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and was its past president. She was an adventurous woman who maintained her independence and dignity throughout her life. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by her son C. Dorian Walker and his wife Elaine Walker of Bowling Green, their children Erin Walker of New York City and Evan Walker of Owensboro; her son Eric Snow Walker and his wife Abigail Walker of Alexandria, VA; her son David Earl Walker of Alexandria, VA; and her daughter Cynthia Walker Spencer and her husband Randy Spencer and children Josh and Katy of Goodlettsville, TN. Evelyn was the third of nine children, her eldest sister Blanche Guppy resides near Gander, Newfoundland.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Paul Strahan and Rev. Bob Farmer officiating. Burial will take place in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Fordsville. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, May 23 and after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
