Evelyn Shouse Varble, 80, of Owensboro, passed from this life and into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Floyd and Emma Judell Tucker Shouse.
Evelyn and her husband Edward met one day while attending Sunday school services at the former First Church of the Nazarene. They had a fairytale love and married soon after. She was a dedicated member of the Audubon Church of the Nazarene and was a devout follower of Jesus Christ. Evelyn had attended Owensboro High School. For nearly 30 years, Evelyn had been a manager for a number of restaurants in Owensboro including Burger King, Arby’s, Denny’s, and K-Mart’s Restaurant and also had held management positions at other businesses, and after retirement, she proudly served as a Meijer associate in their deli . She was a beloved mother and grandmother, was delighted in all things related to her family, and was a friend to everyone that knew her. Evelyn was an amazing cook and enjoyed flower gardening.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Harris Varble; and siblings, Emma Lee Harrison, Lora Eileen Geer, and Harold Shouse.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Jacobe “A. J.” Crowley of Madisonville; daughters, Lisa Crowe of Elizabethtown, Linda Booker (Mike) of Owensboro; grandchildren, Debbie Barber (Brandon), Mark Crowe, Jr., Victoria Carlisle (Jackie), Joseph Sapp (Chelsea), and Evelyn Moore, all of Owensboro; along with 13 great-grandchildren.
The Psalmist declares, “Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His godly ones” (Ps. 116:15). And I Thessalonians 4:13-18 encourages us with these words, “But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by the word from the Lord that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore, encourage one another with these words.”
The funeral service will be 10 AM Wednesday, October 21, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with her services being conducted by her son, Pastor Jacobe “A. J.” Crowley. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 20, and after 9 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Family of Evelyn Varble, in care of Jacobe Crowley. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
