Evelyn Dotson Newman

Evelyn Dotson Newman, 103, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday February 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family while at the Heartford House, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born November 23, 1921, in Bowling Green, to the late O.W. “Wick” Dotson Sr. and Winnie Howard Dotson. Evelyn’s first job was secretary at Thruston Elementary School. Then she earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Brescia. From there she went to work for the Ohio County School Board, teaching 4th grade at Pleasant Ridge Elementary and Waylon Elementary. She and her husband, J. F., worked and lived during World War II and the Korean War, where he served in the United States Army.

Evelyn was a lifelong member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church, where she was the church clerk for 42 years. She also loved to spend time with her family, especially all of her grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was a trip she planned every year to Barkley and Kentucky Lake for all of her family to come and enjoy.

Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, J. F. Newman; a son, John Dotson Newman; a daughter, Mary Ann Fourqurean; and a brother, O. W. “Wick” Dotson Jr.

Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Marty (Freddie) Craig; a son, Dr. Mark (Susan) Newman; 9 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Mark) Emery, Perry (Tammy Sumner) Fourqurean, David (Jodi) Fourqurean, Evelyn Jane Newman, Pam Craig, Amy Vitato, Sarah Newman, Jack (Katy) Newman, and Dr. Catherine Newman; 9 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Evelyn Newman will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday February 26, 2025, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. The burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
