Evelyn C. Guthrie, 100, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. Evelyn was born on June 17, 1925, in Livingston, TN, to the late Emitt and Metta Hill Conatser.
Evelyn earned a Masters in Education from Western Kentucky University and devoted 30 years of her life as an elementary school teacher. She taught in Burkesville, KY, and later in the Owensboro Public School System where she retired in 1983; however, she continued working for the school until 1988.
Being a woman of many interests, Evelyn found joy in playing golf, bridge, shopping for antiques, spending winters in Florida, and fishing. She was an avid reader and read at least 100 books per year for many years. She was an honorary and long-time member of Windridge Country Club. Guided by her strong faith, she was a devoted member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for nearly 67 years.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Morris Wayne Guthrie; her son, Stephen Morris Guthrie; and her siblings, Donald Conatser and Charlene Ray.
She is lovingly remembered and survived by her daughter, Janie (Chip) Lilly of Bedford, KY; her grandchildren, Sarah Guthrie and Connor Lilly; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
