Evelyn Jean Benningfield Coffman, 83, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at her home. Born July 27, 1926 in Daviess County, she was the daughter of the late George V. and Goldie Baird Merritt; was a homemaker; and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Coffman enjoyed gardening, caring for the birds and squirrels in her yard, and dancing. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Estil Benningfield in 1969; her second husband, John Howell Coffman, Jr. in 2003; and a grandson, Christopher W. Thomas; and a great-grandson, Jacob Nathaniel Benningfield.

Surviving are her children, George Anna Rumage , Danny (and Sherri) Benningfield, and Sarah (and Donald) Burris all of Owensboro, and Barbara (and Charles) Hancock of Henderson; five step-children; grandchildren, Estil R. Benningfield, Carl R. Thomas, Danny R. Benningfield, Heather N. Baum, Jonathan T. Benningfield, Anthony V. Benningfield, Lauren E. Baum, and Christopher W. Luttrell; eight great-grandchildren; and a special friend and neighbor, Ann Norris of Owensboro.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2010 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Allen Shouse officiating followed by burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday and after 9 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
