Eula Eunice Park Mitchell, 96, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011, at the Hermitage. Born in the Narrows Community of Ohio County on September 12, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Carson and Corinne Thomas Park; graduated from Community High School and attended Western Kentucky University, Owensboro Business College, and Kentucky Wesleyan College. Mrs. Mitchell retired from General Electric after 30 years in quality control. She was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she and her husband C.C. Mitchell were active in the church summer camp, Camp Loucon, for many years.
After her retirement from G.E., she enjoyed many club activities, including DAR, Republican Women's Club, Homemakers Club, West Central Kentucky Family Research Club, and the Owensboro Women's Club. She was a Kentucky Colonel. She had a lifelong interest in politics and was a precinct captain and served as a clerk in local elections. Mrs. Mitchell was interested in genealogy and compiled books of family history. She and her husband were avid supporters of local athletic teams.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, C.C. Mitchell; sisters, Myrtle Park, Louise McPherson, and Lorain Williams; and a brother, William Carson Park.
Surviving are sons, David C. Mitchell and his wife Ronnett of Deer Park, TX and Douglas P. Mitchell and his wife Sarah Jane of Nashville; five grandchildren, Beth Mitchell and her husband Mark of Santa Cruz, Ca., Kay Carey and her husband Christian of South Amboy, NJ, Christopher Mitchell and his wife Quenby of Austin, TX, Thomas Mitchell and his wife Aymara of Pittsburgh, PA, Michael Mitchell of Houston, TX two great-grandchildren Blaine and Larrabee Mitchell of Santa Cruz, CA; a sister, Ruth Leach, three sister in laws and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 12 noon, Monday, January 2, 2012, in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Dr. Glenn Sowards and Rev. Darren Brandon officiating followed by burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral time at the funeral home.
