Eugene M. "Hank" Greenwell, passed away of congestive heart failure and diabetes on November 14, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Whiting, In. on July 3, 1928 and was raised in Curdsville, Ky. and resided at 837 Florence Court, Owensboro.
Hank was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. He retired from the United States Postal Service amd was active in the American Postal Worker's Union and headed other numerous offices including state president and vice president of the A.F.L.-C.I. O. Workers Union. He also served the Owensboro Ferderal Credit Union as president of the Board of Directors.
Hank was a devoted "Yellow Dog" member of the Democratic Party and participated in voter registration, both locally and statewide. He was especially proud of receiving the Owensboro-Daviess Co. "Golden Rooster Award" on October 4, 1997.
Hank was an avid golfer "in his day" and worked at Hillcrest Golf Course. He gave golf lessons for the City Parks Department and was especially interested in "Junior Golf". He was always happy to share his "expertise" with his friends (Smile). He was a loyal "die-hard" University of Louisville Cardinal fan. He was born to the late Clement & M. Elsie O'Bryan Greenwell. Also preceding him in death was his son, Julius E. Greenwell and his daughter Sandra Cornelius, and a brother, William E. "Bill" Otto of Washington State.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Sue Graham Greenwell, his son, Michael Clement Greenwell of Dallas, Tx, daughter, Terry Thompson of Prospect, Ky., proud grandsons,, Julius Eugene "Jay" Greenwell, Jr. of Haubstadt, In. andJonathan Ryan Greenwell of Owensboro, and an aunt, Sister Mary Clement of Maple Mount, Ky., and brothers & sisters, Mary E. "Toots" Hefron of Newburyport, Mass., Rita Kinney Ridgway of Nicholasville, Ky., Joseph Greenwell of Owensboro, C. "Tink" Greenwell of Frankfort, Ky., Claudia Myles Thurman of Sonora, Ky., and L. "Bucky" Greenwell of Utica. Also recognized lovingly are neices and nephews.
There will be no visitation. Private family services will be held Wednesday, November 17, at 1:00 P.M. at Glenn Funeral Home and will be officiated by Father Freddie Byrd.
