Eugene "Gene" H. Estes

Eugene "Gene" H. Estes, 87, of Owensboro, passed away on July 22, 2017. He was born October 16, 1929 in Owensboro to the late Thurmond Eugene and Edith Shadwick Estes. Gene was retired from GE (later MPD) after working there for 46 years. He also served in the United States Navy aboard the destroyer escort USS Sturtevant.

Gene was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ruby Clark Estes in 2013; a sister, Lorraine Claypool; and a brother, Lee Dan Estes.

He is survived by his children, Stephen (Brenda Roby) Estes of Roswell, GA, David (Julie Collings) Estes of Franklin, TN, and Charlotte (Bill) Carroll of Bardstown, KY; eight grand-children, Katie (Cole) Spedale, Kellie Ann Estes, Mary Clay (Nick) Batts, Lucy (Kenneth) Long, Ellen (Trenton) Powell, Anna Grace Estes, David (Lynea) Carroll, Alan Carroll; and four great-grandchildren, Emery Spedale, Easton Spedale, Nathan Long and Henry Long.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
