Eugene "Gene" Crowe, 73, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Mr. Crowe was born August 10, 1943 in Reed to the late Joseph and Martha Barr Crowe. Gene graduated from Owensboro Catholic High in 1961 then worked and retired from the Maintenance Dept. of the Daviess County Board of Education after more than 20 years. Mr. Crowe was a simple, generous, and hospitable man who always reached out to strangers, even inviting them home for a hot shower and place to sleep, much to the concern of his family. He was an avid UK fan and Kentucky Colonel who loved fishing with his brothers, and family gatherings. He religiously and routinely kept his "computer time" and watched his "judge" shows every day. Every Monday afternoon, Gene would solve the world's problems with his friend, Bill. But he found the most contentment sitting in his lawn chair with a cold beer and a cigarette.
Mr. Crowe was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Bill, Bob, Doug, Norbert, Richard, Marty Crowe and his sister, Patsy Phelps.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Tammy Crowe (Tracy) and Tina Hale; son, Todd Crowe; children he considered his own, Connie Griffin and Mike Higdon; former wife and best friend, Lana Crowe; brothers, George Crowe (Norma) and Paul Crowe (Theresa); sister, Martha "Sissy" Zoglmann (Billy Joe). Gene was blessed with three grandsons: Michael, Mason, and Matthew Hale; numerous nieces and nephews.
The service will be 4:00 PM Monday, February 20 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Father Tom Buckman officiating. A casual visitation will also be Monday from 12:00 to 4:00 PM. Visitors are welcomed to wear UK attire. Mr. Crowe expressed his wishes to have his cremated remains buried at his father's gravesite in Reed, Kentucky.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
