Eugene E. Berry, Sr., Master Sergeant, USAF retired, 75, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, January 15, 2007 at the Hillcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born November 14, 1931 in Lexington Township, IL and raised in Butler Co, KY, Mr. Berry was the son of the late Osbon and Hallie Jones Berry and was of the Baptist Faith. MSgt Berry retired from the United States Air Force in 1970 after a distinguished 20 year career as an Air Policeman, Ground Safety Inspector, and Recruiter. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars earning the Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. After a second retirement running a small business, he enjoyed gardening, writing short stories, watching UK basketball, and his dog Dee Dee. MSgt Berry was a member of the American Legion and The Retired Enlisted Association.

Mr. Berry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gailya Porter Berry; sons, Dr. Ronald Berry and his wife Elaine and Eric O. Berry of Owensboro, and Eugene Berry, Jr. and his life partner Jeffrey Campbell of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Deborah Berry of FL; grandchildren, Robert E. Berry, Cristin Whittaker and her husband Robert, William Andrew Berry, John P. Berry, and Nora Katherine Berry; great-grandchild, Joseph Alex Berry; brothers, William R. Berry and his wife Marcella and Rollie Berry and his wife Elizabeth all of Butler County, a sister, Pauline Berry Dockery of Morgantown; and special friends, Martin and June Hamilton of Owensboro.

Services are 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Daryl Dockery officiating followed by entombment in Rosehill Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered by the Honor Guard from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-8 P.M. Tuesday and after 10 A.M. on Wednesday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Third Baptist Church or a charity of the donors choice.
