Estil Thomas Kizer, age 100, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. He was born August 26, 1917 in McLean County, KY. He was predeceased by parents, William H. and Ada Coomes Kizer; brothers, Marvin, Elmer and Wallace; and sister, Kathleen. He was also preceded in death by his eldest grandson, John Thomas Kizer of Atlanta, GA.
Estil was a 38-year employee with General Electric Company, with the majority of his career in Owensboro. He had additional General Electric management assignments in Anniston, AL, and in Singapore setting up South Asia manufacturing operations.
An Army veteran of World War II, Estil served in the European theater operations and was twice awarded the Bronze Star.
Estil was recognized as an excellent golfer. He was a true team player and student of golf rules and etiquette. His early background as a caddy in Owensboro, his love and dedication to golf earned him respect from other players, as well as proved he was a formidable competitor. He won multiple tournaments locally and at state and regional levels. He proved his skill at age 86 by shooting his age in one of his last competitive rounds.
Estil is remembered as a fair-minded man with a kind spirit, patience and strong principles that will always remain with his family. He was a caring man who was loved by his family and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former JoAnn Smith. He is also survived by his son, Jack Kizer (Shelley) of Atlanta, GA and his daughter, Drue Williams (Charles) of Maitland, FL; grandchildren, Michael Kizer of San Francisco, CA, Greg Kizer of Nashville, TN, and Kelly Williams of Maitland, FL. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
The funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon Thursday, November 2nd at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1st from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and also before the funeral service from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
