Estel Dwayne Merritt, 62, of Owensboro¸escaped the clutches of ALS and joined his Lord and savior on July 5, 2016 at his home. Born on May 10, 1954 in Owensboro, KY, to the late Estel Joy and Lelia Ward Daughtery Merritt. Dwayne retired from Titan Contracting and Leasing, where he worked as Superintendent. He enjoyed boating, golfing, NASCAR, was a lifetime NRA member, and an avid UK basketball fan; most of all, Dwayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Dwayne crisscrossed the United States for both work and pleasure and visited 49 of 50 states never making it to Hawaii.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Darlene Merritt; daughters, Misty Day (Kenny) of Central City and Crystal Merritt of Owensboro; son, Bradley Merritt of LA; stepsons Chris Parker (Jessica) and Kevin Parker (Kellie) both of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; sisters Linda Cecil and Phyllis Stephens and brothers Glenn Merritt (Teresa) and Jeff Merritt (Frances).

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, July 8th, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Thursday 2pm to 8pm and after 12pm on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery following the service.
