Ernest Ivo Hayden

Ernest "Ernie" Ivo Hayden, Jr., 76, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, January 12, 2008 at his home. Born June 20, 1931 in Daviess County, he was the son of the late Ernest Ivo Hayden Sr. and Agatha Wethington Hayden; was preceded in death by a son, Allen Edwin Hayden at 2 years old of polio and a brother, James W. Hayden and three sisters, Naomi Ranta, Jean Clark, and Martha Saltsman.

During the period of 1955-1993 he worked for Green Coal Company (35 years) retiring in 1994 as a mine foreman and heavy equipment operator. He also worked for short periods of time for JO Burge Coal Co loading coal, Peabody Coal Company as a master mechanic, and Brown Badgett Coal Company loading coal. Mr. Hayden was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and enjoyed dirt hauling, fishing, Dirt Track Racing, and watching UK basketball.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha Lucille Sparks Hayden; sons, Doug (and Sharon) Hayden and Larry Hayden and his wife Cheryl Morris of Owensboro; daughters, Norma (and Kenny) Fuchs, Sheila (and Reed) Lee, Nancy (and Jerry) Simmons, and Kathy Hayden all of Owensboro; sisters, Sue Clukey of Tulsa, OK and Rosie Kimbley of Owensboro; a brother, Jerry Hayden of Hopkinsville; brothers-in-law, D.J. Clark of Owensboro and Donald Saltsman of Titusville, FL; grandchildren, Brian Hayden, Nathan Hayden, Beth Simmons, Justin Fuchs, Jason Simmons, Kristen Fuchs, Bradley Hayden, Josh Fuchs, Ashly Simmons, Andrew Fuchs, Melanie Hayden Sykes, Carrie Simmons, Emily Hayden, and Kelly Simmons; and several great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 P.M. Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Glenn Funeral Home with Father Pete Hughes officiating followed by burial in St Raphael Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3-8 P.M. at the funeral home and after 10 A.M. Tuesday. Prayers will be said at 6 P.M. Monday.
