Ermagene “Gene” Schafer Parks, 98, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday June 11, 2025. She was born December 19, 1926, in Marshall, Illinois, one of five children to the late Dan and Cecil Blockinger Schafer and was a member of First Christian Church. Gene was a devoted wife, and her children have always been the most important part of her life and a source of great pride. She was also an avid bridge player.
Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Pete Parks; brothers, Vern and Wayne Schafer; and a sister, Irene Schafer Hirsch.
Gene is survived by her three children, Cathy (Steve) Perrin of Owensboro, Greg (Susan) Parks of Louisville, Karen (Jim) Knighton of Zionville, IN, and; four grandchildren, Nicholas (Monica) Ebelhar, Ryan Ebelhar, Kathleen (Luke) Davidson, and Grace Anne Knighton; also seven great-grandchildren, Caroline Ebelhar, Bennett Ebelhar, Jack Henry Davidson, Hadley Davidson, Walker Davidson, Ellis Davidson, and Brooks Davidson; a sister, Doris Cooper; also, several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Gene will be at 12 p.m. Thursday June 19, 2025, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The entombment will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to First Christian Church, 700 J R Miller Blvd. Owensboro, KY 42303.
