Erica Noel Owen, 25, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018. She was born May 20, 1993 to Lisa Greer and Maurice "Rece" Owen. Erica attended Bridgepointe Church and lived a faith-based life. She was vibrant and lovely – an inspiration to all that knew her – a kind heart – an infectious smile – She brought sunshine into our lives – and we're all going to miss her because on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, the angels escorted Erica Owen into the arms of God. A young life that was making such a remarkable difference in this world was cut short – far too short.
Erica's sweet smile and sparkling eyes would have been enough beauty to fill a room, but she was always impeccably dressed – Yes, our Diva with the heart and soul of an Angel. A funny thought brings to mind a day at Disney when she was three years old – She walked up to Minnie Mouse and with wide eyes and hands clasped across her face, she looked up at speechless Minnie and said, "I LOVE YOUR SHOES!" And a plaque hangs on her wall, quoting Cinderella, "A new pair of shoes can change your life." Her spunky vivacious attitude proves that Dynamite can come in small packages!
God used Erica in many ways as she lived her life caring for others. Erica was a Registered Nurse at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Kentucky University. She was loved by her patients not only for the medical care she gave them but as much for the smiles and happy greetings she brought them every day. She loved the lovable and the unlovable because she always said – as you care for your patient, be kind, patient and loving – because you never know what someone is going through. She heeded her own advice not only as a nurse but as a daughter, a sister, a friend…
Erica had many loves in her life: She was her brother Drew's biggest fan whether it was in baseball, football, soccer, hockey... She followed in her grandfather's footsteps in his love for the St. Louis Cardinals. She adored her hours spent with Baby "JAM". Her lucky lil dogs Rex (Golden Retriever) and Rosie (Mini Yorkie) were her beloved pampered babies. She enjoyed watching endless episodes of Grey's Anatomy. She was an avid reader. Oh, and her new-found obsession was Princess Meghan – "You know, Mom, I'm just like her." She'd say with a smile and a giggle. Tyler Hagan re-entered Erica's life a few short weeks ago, and during that time, she was allowed to feel what being truly loved was really like.
Her favorite vacation spot – The Beach – She loved the sound of the ocean's rushing waves, the soothing touch of the sand, the warmth of the sun, and the joy of friends and family to share the sun-kissed moments.
While Heaven holds many treasures that she couldn't even fathom – one thing for sure is that she will see her high school friend Lauren Girten. Before Lauren passed away of cancer, they'd planned a family vacation to include swimming with the dolphins – something they'd really looked forward to. And now they can take that dolphin ride in Heaven's Crystal River.
Heaven's gain is our loss; but God has a Plan and one day He will bring us together again – Our Erica – daughter, sister, friend – until that day we welcome her visits in our dreams as God allows from Heaven's portal.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ruth and Gene Denham; her paternal grandfather, Keith Owen; and her uncle, Mark Denham.
Survivors include her mother and step-father, Lisa and Brian Greer of Owensboro; her father and step-mother, Maurice "Rece" and Stacey Owen of Owensboro; her paternal grandmother, Vel Owen of LaBelle, MO; her brother, Drew Owen of Owensboro; her step-brothers and sisters, Christy Severs (Brandon) of Lewisport, KY, Breanna Montgomery (Keith) of Owensboro, Brandon Elder of St. Petersburg, FL, Kaitlyn Elder Roberts (Joe) of Hayden, AL, and Nolan Elder of Owensboro; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
