Emmett Purdy

Emmett Purdy, Jr. (Toby), 79 years old, of 2533 Bittel Road, Owensboro, KY died Monday, December 22, 2008 at his home. Emmett was born in Owensboro on June 28, 1929, a son of Emmett and Thelma Zinsz Purdy, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a twin brother, George and two sisters, Janice Purdy Strawn and Margaret Purdy Barker. Emmett retired from Texas Gas Transmission Corporation in 1990 after 41 years of service. He retired as Supervisor, Plant Accounting. Emmett was a member of Owensboro Christian Church and formerly was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. At Zion Church, Emmett had served as Sunday school superintendent, treasurer and president of the Church Council. Emmett also served as a Junior Achievement advisor and was a member of the National Association of Accountants.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Ann Watson Purdy; two daughters, Ann Rea Purdy Anderson (Gary Blain) of Lexington and Julie Mendel Purdy Potts (Steven R.) of Bardstown. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Potts, Kelly Reann Potts, Matthew Blain Anderson and Toby Ryan Anderson.

Services, officiated by Rev. Rick Grover, are at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Church of Christ. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky or the charity of one's choice.
