Emma Jean Young, 86, of Owensboro, passed away at Owensboro Center on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. She was born in Calhoun, Kentucky to the late Homer and Grace Norris Gibson.
Mrs. Young retired from Owensboro Health Regional Hospital where she had worked as a Certified Nurse's Aide for more than 20 years. She was a member of Center Street Baptist Church where she was active in the choir until her health prevented it. Mrs. Young was also past president of the Missionary Auxiliary of Green River Valley District Association.
She was preceded in death by a foster son, George M. Riley and brothers, Homer and Hubert Gibson.
Mrs. Young is survived by her husband of 55 years, James William Young; foster daughter, Katie Riley; a host of foster grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Amanda Porter, Shirley Worthen, Phyllis Akpan (Rev. John) and Martha Gibson, all of Owensboro; a brother, Rev. Richard M. Gibson (Donna) of Louisville; sister-in-law, Betty Gibson of Owensboro; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, September 20 at Center Street Baptist Church, 715 Center Street. Apostle Carlos Lamar will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 11 AM on Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
