Emma Bell Ranson, 96, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at her home. Born in Owensboro, a daughter of the late Jessie M. and Julie Ann Hale Cauley, Emma Bell was a member of St. John United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women and for many years oversaw the church nursery. She was a devoted student of the Bible. She had served as a caregiver and had worked at General Electric. Emma Bell was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, was an excellent seamstress and worked tirelessly in her yard and garden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harford Wall Ranson in 2012, her son, James Wall Ranson in 2007, and her grandson James Alan Sauer in 2015.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Sauer (Presley) of Stanley; her grandchildren Sondra Ranson of Owensboro, Stacy Hughbanks of Louisville, Jenny Higgins (Dan) of Orlando, and John Sauer (Nicole) of Bowling Green; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, her sister Bessie Cooper of Owensboro; and her sisters-in-law Elva Ranson and Doris Ranson, both of Owensboro.
The funeral service for Mrs. Ranson, officiated by Rev. Peggy Smith, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. John United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Building Fund of St. John United Methodist Church and Hospice of Western Kentucky.
