Elmer Lee "Brownie" Brown, 84, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Elmer was born in Roxana, Illinois to the late Harry and May (Cross) Brown. He was a retired insurance agent for American General Insurance Company, a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir for 40 years, was an elder, a Sunday school teacher, chairman of the Worship Committee, and served on the Executive Board. Elmer had served in the Marine Corps, and volunteered for Golden Partners, was a member of the Moose Lodge, and enjoyed playing horse shoes in tournaments. Elmer never complained or felt sorry for himself, even during his illness .He was an excellent, loving husband, father and grandfather.
A sister, Elma Brown also preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Shirley (Prather) Brown, a son, Mitch (Gail) Brown of Highlands Ranch, CO, daughter, Susan (Steve) Wilke of Independence, KY, grandchildren, Tyler Joseph Wilke and Justin Lee Wilke of Independence, KY, and Jaden Rui Brown of Highland Ranch, CO, a sister, Joyce Fields of East Alton, IL, Lainie Sauteron of France, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim McGuire officiating. There will be no visitation prior to services. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Cumberland Presbyterian Church and online condolences may be left at www.glennfuneralhome.com.
