Ellis Glenn Rowe

Ellis Glenn Rowe, Jr., 71, born in Logan County, KY December 26, 1929 died Monday, September 17, 2001 at his home in Owensboro. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, serving on multiple committees, associations, and in various other roles. He edited and produced the local church newsletter for ten years.

He retired from GMAC after 36 years. He was a member of the Owensboro Lions Club for 19 years currently serving as treasurer, a Past District Governor of Kentucky Lions and a trustee of the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation. The Owensboro Lions Club honored him in 1991-92, by selecting him Lion-of-the-Year and in 1993-94, he received the coveted Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. In 1997-98, he received an International Presidents Certificate of Appreciation. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Graduated from Brescia University in 1998 with a degree in Philosophy and English. He participated for several years in a program that recorded books: textbooks, novels, and general knowledge books for the blind. He received awards from the Library for the Blind Association of Kentucky for his service with the blind. He also served in the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Nancy England Rowe, a daughter, Connie Lee Dahlgren of Smyrna, TN; a son, Ellis G. Chip Rowe, III of Nashville, TN; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his mother, Christine Rowe Hollins of Auburn, KY; a brother, John Thomas Rowe of Memphis; two sisters, Christine Ashby of Auburn, KY and Polly Ann Tyner of Mountain View, CA.

His family will receive friends at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2001 and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2001 at Zion United Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. September 20, 2001 at Zion United Church of Christ in Owensboro, officiated by Doctor William Schultz and Reverend Michael Marx. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Auburn Cemetery in Auburn, KY.
