Ellen Ruth Taylor Roberts

Ellen Ruth Taylor Roberts, 89, of Owensboro passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Carmel Home. Born in Melrose, Arkansas on October 31, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Dona Westerfield Taylor. Mrs. Roberts was a beautician, owning her own business, and a member of Sts Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Mrs. Roberts was a dedicated volunteer at the Boulware Center and the Pitino Shelter and often cooked for the homeless. She was a strong supporter of education, establishing the Ellen Ruth Taylor Roberts Scholarship at Brescia University and encouraging all her children to pursue post-graduate studies. Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gilbert Roberts in 1987; a son, Larry William Roberts in 2001; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her children, Brenda (and Paul) Starr of Springfield, VA, Roy (and Vicki) Roberts of Raleigh, NC, Dr. Joan (and Bob) Wimsatt of Louisville, and Harold (and Suzanne) Roberts of Carmel, IN; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Ann Roberts of Lakeland, FL.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2009 at Sts Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Carl McCarthy, officiating followed by entombment in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday and after 8:30 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. of Thursday evening.
