Elizabeth "Betty" Payne, 78, of Maceo passed away Friday, October 17, 2008 at the University of Louisville Hospital. Born in Daviess County on April 14, 1930, Mrs. Payne was the daughter of the late Orville H. and Mary Belle Jones Burden; was a member of the St Pius Catholic Church; and was a homemaker and had worked many years for the Moore Family in Maceo. Mrs. Payne loved sewing, quilting, bowling, caring for children, and was a 33 year member of the Maceo Homemakers. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Payne, Jr. in 1973, a son, Mike Payne in 1991, and a grandson, Doug Payne in 1987.
She is survived by sons, Richard (Brenda) Payne and Randy (Melinda) Payne of Maceo; daughters, Ann (Robbie) Atherton of Beaver Dam, Susie (Curtiss) Clark of Owensboro, and Beverly (Bruce) Shappart of Pocatello, ID; a daughter-in-law, Linda Payne of Maceo; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bobby Burden of Maceo.
Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church followed by burial in Kelly Cemetery in Maceo. Visitation will be 4 to 8 P.M. on Monday and 11-12 p.m. on Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home where prayers will be said at 6 p.m. on Monday evening.
