Elizabeth Powell Mattingly, 96, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Carmel Home. She was born June 3, 1921 in Daviess Co. to the late Athanisius Leo and Mary Helena Calhoun Powell. Elizabeth was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and retired from General Electric in 1982. One of her favorite things to do was making quilts. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her husband, James C. Mattingly in 1970, her children, Joseph Earl Mattingly in 1964, James Robert Mattingly in 1998, and Barbara Deanne Itschner in 2008, a great granddaughter, Savanna Stone Carr in 2017, three sisters, Mary Ethyl Tichenor, Lauritta Lambert, and Florence Merle Lambert, and a brother, Thomas Earl Powell.
Surviving are her grandchildren, Lisa (Darwin Settles) Mattingly of Owensboro, Jeff Mattingly of Connecticut, Tim (Sherri) Mattingly of Owensboro, Tracy (David Kelley) Mattingly of Owensboro, Todd Mattingly of Owensboro, Karen (Rubin) King Jones of Lexington, and Jim (Jennifer) Itschner of Louisville, great grandchildren, Justin Stone, Chris Cain, Michael King, Zack Mattingly, Ashton Cain, Nick Mattingly, Tyler Mattingly, Elise Webb, and Korry Jones, seven great great grandchildren, a brother, James Leo Powell of Owensboro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Monday with prayers at 7:30 P.M. and from 9:00-10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
