Elizabeth "Liz" Anne Ramsey Carroll

Elizabeth "Liz" Anne Ramsey Carroll, age 87, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home September 12th, 2026. Born on April 21, 1939, in Central City, Kentucky, Liz was the daughter of Elizabeth and E.W. Ramsey.

Liz graduated from Murray State University School of Nursing in 1960 and began her career as an Operating Room Registered Nurse at Owensboro Mercy Hospital. While working in Owensboro she met the love of her life, Thomas A. Carroll. The two were married in August 1962 and began a devoted partnership that spanned more than six decades. After their marriage, Liz and Tom moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where Tom attended the University of Kentucky College of Law, graduating in 1967. Upon his graduation, they moved to Owensboro, KY where they built their life together and raised their three children: Michele, David, and Michael.

Liz was an extraordinary wife, mother, nurse, grandmother, and friend. She devoted her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally, and served as a mentor to many throughout the years. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

A faithful member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, Liz found great joy in serving her church community alongside Tom. She volunteered countless hours supporting Vacation Bible School, youth ministries, the church nursery, the Council on Ministries, Senior Methodist Youth Fellowship, and Camp Loucon. Her deep faith in God and commitment to family were the foundation of her life and guided her through every season with grace and gratitude.

Liz enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her tremendous pride and joy. She celebrated their accomplishments, encouraged their dreams, and cherished every moment spent together.

Our mother was the heart of our family, a woman whose greatest joy was spending time with the people she loved. She had a remarkable way of turning ordinary moments into treasured memories, and her presence brought warmth, laughter, and comfort wherever she went.

One of her favorite traditions was gathering the family for vacations to Panama City Beach. Those trips became some of our most cherished memories. Whether she was relaxing by the water, enjoying sunsets along the shore, collecting seashells, or simply watching her children and grandchildren play in the sand, she loved every moment spent together. For her, the beach was never just a destination, it was a place where family bonds grew stronger and memories were made that would last a lifetime.

More than anything, she will be remembered for the love she shared so freely. She taught us the importance of family, hard work, kindness, and appreciating life's simple blessings. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she created, the memories she gave us, and the values she instilled in each of us. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in remembering the countless beautiful moments we shared. From the beaches of Florida, to snowy mountain slopes, to the peaceful beauty of her garden, her love surrounds us still. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Along with her parents, Liz was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Sue Ramsey Chaney.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Thomas A. Carroll; her daughter, Michele Carroll; her sons, David Carroll and Michael (Tracy) Carroll; and her cherished grandchildren, Julie (Dylan) McCaghren, Michael (Anna) David, Avery Carroll, and Emily Carroll.

Liz's legacy of faith, service, love, and compassion will continue to live on through her family and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 19, at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Private entombment will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
