Elizabeth Gray

October 29, 1940 — October 3, 2014

Elizabeth "Liz" Gray, 73, of Owensboro, was surrounded by her family as she went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2014 at The Heartford House. She was born October 29, 1940 to the late Louis Earl and Edna Whitfill Laney in Swiftown, MS.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by Thomas E. Gray, beloved husband, in 2013.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Wedding and her husband Bill; grandchildren Blake Wedding and Sophie Wedding; brothers, Joseph (Lana) Laney, James Laney, Robert (Sandra) Laney, Jerry (Nance) Laney, John (Peggy) Laney, and Larry (Ann) Laney; sisters, Dale Harper and her husband Dale and Kathy (James) O'Bryan; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth carried many titles throughout her faithful and devoted life. She was retired as Director for the Kentucky Bureau for the Blind for which she coordinated community volunteers who read and recorded text books for blind college students. Liz was an Honorable Kentucky Colonel. She was a caring daughter and sister, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Still to many she was known as an arduous and motivated volunteer, a faithful Christian and perhaps most notably the beautiful woman in the choir every Sunday with the equally beautiful singing voice that wholeheartedly expressed the love and selflessness that so often inspired her.

A passionate longtime member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church, Liz served many roles. She and her husband led many Sunday school classes. He, the great teacher, she, the one who welcomed you with open arms. She was instrumental in the development of a ladies group that brought many ladies together for grand events to simple fellowship, but ultimately to give honor to God. Liz loved to sing and be involved with special programs the choir performed. By listening to her narrate the program one was able to feel as if you were transported into the actual event and absorbing all the emotions the characters portrayed.

Liz loved to color and glamorize any room or setting. She never failed to willingly welcome people of all kinds into her home. She had the unique ability to make you feel special in her presence. She and her beloved husband, Tom, loved to travel. They especially loved the beach and taking their special friend, Pugsley, on many long walks.

The funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday, October 6, 2014 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 2 until 6 pm on Sunday and after 10 am Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery.
