Eldred Jay Powell, 58, of 1315 Ralph Road, Whitesville, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2005 at his home. He was born in Dayton, Ohio and had been attending the Christ Presbyterian Church in Owensboro. He was retired from the National Park Services as a Park Ranger and also was a United Methodist Church minister. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion Post #9 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a driver for the Disabled American Veterans, had been a certified State Service Officer since 1996, and was a Shriner clown. He was preceded in death by his father, Eldred Louis Powell, Sr.

Surviving is his wife of 12 years, Jeannine Powell, a stepson, George Medling of Miami, Fl., his mother, Lela V. Powell of Whitesville, a brother, Bruce Powell of Pittsburg, Pa., and a sister, Venita Joy Howard of Fairborn, Ohio.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 15, at the Christ Presbyterian Church with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 8:30 A.M. Saturday at the Glenn Funeral Home. Military Honors will be givens by VFW Post 696 at the graveside.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Transportation Fund, P. O. Box 1374, Owensboro, Ky. 42302.
