Edwin Lee Mullikin, Jr. of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, March 20th, at a private care facility in Nashville, Tennessee, where he had been transferred following surgery on his leg earlier this year. Ed was born on September 30, 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee, and was a veteran of World War II. Ed married Jean Kimmel on September 18, 1954, and remained married to Jean until his death. Together they had five children and 14 grandchildren: Doug Mullikin of Owensboro and his wife, Sandi, and children Tiffany and Emily; James Mullikin of Grapevine, Texas and his wife, Laurie, and children Sean, Brett, Kelsey and Amy; Kathy Collings of Spring Hill, Tennessee and her husband, Mark, and children Meagan, James, and Jonathan; Tom Mullikin of Little Ferry, New Jersey and his wife, Julie, and children Rebekah, Abigail, and Rachel; and Matt Mullikin of Newburgh, Indiana and his wife, Glena, and children Trevor and Wesley. Ed is also survived by his sister, Julia Mullikin Smith.
Ed worked for Texas Gas for over 35 years, as an Electrical Engineer. Following his retirement he served as a volunteer for a number of years at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Ed was a faithful member of Settle Memorial Methodist Church for over 40 years, and was also a member of The Gideons International.
Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home on Sunday, March 23, 2008 from 2 to 6 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Monday with the funeral to be held there, Monday at 12:00 p.m. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Settle Memorial United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
