Edwin Leroy Mobley

Edwin Leroy Mobley, 84, of Owensboro, died Sunday, August 6, 2006, at his home following a brief battle with cancer. He was born April 21, 1922 in Washington County, to the late Deloss and Vertner Threlkeld Mobley. Also preceding him in death were his four brothers and sisters, J.T. Mobley, Lucille Moore, Willie Mobley and Anita Kemper.

He attended grade school in a one room school house and graduated from high school in Mackville, in Washington County. He was an Army veteran of WW II, serving in the 118th Radio Intelligence Company of the Third Army. This company received a Presidential Unit Citation for their role in the location and subsequent destruction of a German Railroad Gun threatening General Pattons Headquarters. After completion of his military service, he worked as a truck driver, spending over 37 years as an owner/operator hauling petroleum products.

His enjoyment of travel led him to be one of the first in this area to own a camping trailer. He loved gardening and flowers, and was a virtual encyclopedia of knowledge about tow boats and the Ohio River in general. He faithfully attended Yellow Creek Baptist Church for over 55 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Inelle Milton Mobley; two children, Sandy Mudd and her husband, Rickey of Portageville, MO, Lynn Mobley and his wife, Leslie of Owensboro; four grandchildren, John Mobley and his wife, Kim, Kelly Mobley, Mark Mudd and Julie Winborn and her husband, Ryan. Special joys were his two great-grandsons, Alexander Thomas Mobley and Alexander Dean Winborn.

Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, at Glenn Funeral Home with visitation from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday, and after 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial and graveside services will be 12:00 PM, CDT Thursday at Peters Cemetery in Mackville, KY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Yellow Creek Baptist Church Bldg.
