Edward Roberts, Jr., 92, of Utica, passed away on Thursday March 19, 2026 at his home. He was born July 31, 1933 in Daviess County to the late Thomas Edward and Pauline Jones Roberts. Ed was a retired boilermaker after 65 years with the Boilermaker Union Local #40. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and had also worked at Garden Gate Nursery and was an “unofficial” greeter at the Y.M.C.A. where he also was involved in “Rock Steady” boxing. Ed had a fantastic memory and was a person who never met a stranger. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, was an avid U.K. basketball fan, loved those White Castle hamburgers, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved celebrating his, his wife’s, and a great granddaughter’s birthdays together, all born on July 31. Ed was a student at the former one room school house, “The Old Snowball School” on Jack Hinton Road and enjoyed going to his Daviess Co. High School Senior Class Reunions.
Ed was also preceded in death by six brothers and a sister, Samuel, Ira Lee, Clyde, Earl Ray, Floyd “Buddy”, Hampton, and Virgie Mae Bosley.
Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Bonnie; five sons, Randy (Shelley) Roberts of Livermore, Byron (Cynthia) Roberts of Utica, Sammy (Diana) Roberts of Owensboro, Ricky (Melody) Roberts of Stanley, and Paul (Christine) Roberts of Island; three stepchildren, Brett Alan Thomas of Monroe, Washington, LaDonna Marie Oudard of Norfolk, Virginia, and John Robert Thomas of Cleveland, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; one brother and sister, Bryce (Sue) Roberts and Dorothy Jean Barnett, all of Philpot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday, March 25 at Providence United Methodist Church in Philpot. Visitation will be from 10 AM until Noon Wednesday with Boilermaker Rites ceremony at 11 AM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
