Edward Fruehwald

Edward Emil Fruehwald, 62, of Owensboro, passed into the arms of Jesus Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
He was born November 1, 1954, in Tell City, IN to the late Emil and Betty Freeman Fruehwald. Ed was baptized and grew up in the First Baptist Church and was a 1972 graduate of Tell City High School. He went to Ivy Tech in Evansville where he received an Associates of Arts degree in Commercial Art. He then went to Brescia University and received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Art Education in 1978. He received his Master's in Elementary Education and Rank I from Western Kentucky University in Counseling.

For 20 years, Ed worked at the Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Services (SIRS) office in Tell City as a work adjustment specialist, along with other titles. He was also director of Day Cares in the four county area for SIRS. Ed taught fourth grade in Cloverport, KY for half a year and then seventeen years ago he began teaching art at South Middle School in Henderson, KY where he was currently employed.

He did various drawings of buildings, located in Owensboro, Tell City and Livermore, that have been printed for sale as well as drawings for individuals and businesses. He did many screen prints for South Middle School and always did tremendous art work for their Veteran's Day Program. Four of the five years that Ed served as Lego coach for South Middle School they won awards at the State Competition Level. He also created church floats for the Christmas Parade that won awards for two straight years.

Ed was an ordained General Baptist deacon and minister. He served as deacon and later as Associate Pastor of Owensboro First General Baptist Church. Ed held several positions in the church including Sunday School teacher and working with the youth. He had recently taken continuing pastoral classes through Christian Training Institute (CTI). Ed was named an Honorable Kentucky Colonel more than ten years ago. He was currently attending First Freewill Baptist Church.

He loved animals, motorcycles, gardening, fishing, boating, aquariums, watching SyFy and playing with his grandchildren. Ed was also a loyal UK Basketball fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Otto and Anna Fruehwald and Clarence and Helen Freeman.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janella Fruehwald; three daughters, Natalie Fruehwald, Chelsea (Robbie) Lindsay, all of Owensboro and Allison (Nick) Lambert of Oak Grove, KY; two grandchildren, Heidi and Brody Lindsay; a step-grandson, Jacob Lindsay, all of Owensboro; a sister, Sharon (Dallas) Keilman of Tell City, IN; a niece, Stephanie (Kris) Walsh of Tell City, IN; two great-nieces, Julia and Olivia Walsh of Tell City; his mother-in-law, Frances Hughes of Owensboro; many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be 10 AM Friday, February 17 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 until 8 PM and after 9 AM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery.
