Edna Wigginton Newcomb, 101, of Owensboro, died Saturday, October 13, 2007, at the Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born September 13, 1906 to the late Jerry and Cordia Jolly Wigginton in Ohio County. She was the oldest member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the Cross Bearers Sunday School Class. She and her husband were married December 12, 1925 in Rockport, IN. She was a homemaker and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and also cooking meals for her family celebrations.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse B. Newcomb on August 17, 1983, and her younger brothers and sisters, Delbert and Eura Wigginton, Ida Bell Bell and Sue Wade.
Survivors include her daughter, Wilda Jean Stephens and her husband, Marshall of Indianapolis, IN, her sons, Larry J. Newcomb and his wife, Patricia of Owensboro and Jesse Michael Newcomb and his wife, Jo Nell of Bloomington, IN; seven grandchildren, Byron K. and Stanley W. Stephens, Wilda Kay Brown, Michael Keith Newcomb, Melissa Jo Dewar, Pam Stogner and Patty Jo Evans; nine great-grandchildren, Michael Ray and Michelle Stephens, Sarah and Evan Dewar, Eric Stogner, Debbie Burdon, Felicia, Isaac and Ricky Evans; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday and after 9:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Yellow Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 5741 Hwy 144, Owensboro, KY 42303.
