Edna Mae Longere

Edna Mae "Edie" Longere, 91, of Owensboro, died Monday, November 23, 2009, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Earl and Carlotta Willison Nitzel, and had worked as an Engineer for Tri-Tech in Florida. She was a member of Owensboro Christian Church, a former member of the Eastern Star Prospect Lodge, volunteered at Owensboro Medical Health System, and was a member of the Senior Companion Program and the Foster Grandparent Program serving Cravens and Foust Elementary Schools. Her children in the program called her "Grandma Edie" and she was the recipient for the Volunteer of the Year "Golden Apple" award for her service to the community.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Ruth Anne Stark.

Survivors include her son, Michael L. Longere and his wife Cindy of Indianapolis, IN; daughters, Donnae Sutherlin Dole of Indianapolis, IN and Carole L. MacQuarrie and her husband Colby of Owensboro; grandchildren, Brian Sutherlin, Randal Sutherlin, Chad Sutherlin, Dennis Mattingly, Danielle Longere, Shannon Stark, Stephanie Stark, Collin MacQuarrie, and Molly MacQuarrie; and great-grandchildren, Meagan Holder, Jordan Sutherlin, Corinne Sutherlin, Ethan Sutherlin, Jaden Longere, and Layla Longere.

Services will be held on Wednesday, November 25 at 4 p.m. in the chapel at Owensboro Christian Church. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of local arrangements.
