Edith Coffey Cundiff Smith

Born on a farm near Perryville, Kentucky, and long-time resident of Owensboro for over 72 years, Edith Smith, 93, died peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2013 surrounded by loving family and friends. She was an active member of Settle Memorial Methodist Church for over 65 years. Her many church activities included being a member of the Mary Lou Phillips Sunday School class, teaching kindergarten for 8 years, teaching Sunday school for over 15 years, a member of United Methodist Women, and serving on most church committees. She also taught for 4 years at the Wendell Foster Center. Edith also served for over 20 years on the Mary Kendall Home's "Friends of the Children Board" and was voted Volunteer of the Year in 1992.
She is survived by one son, Bruce Cundiff, Jr. (Sharon) of Bloomfield Hills Michigan; a daughter-in-law - Sue Cundiff Lynn of Auburn, KY; 4 grandchildren - Bruce Cundiff, III, Reed Cundiff, Robert E. Cundiff, Jr., and Rebecca Hedrick; 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Captain Robert E. Cundiff, Sr. in 1968, and her husband of 32 years, James Edgar Smith, in 1998.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts will be gratefully accepted by the memorial funds of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, the Mary Kendall Home, or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
