Earlis Hudson

Earlis Hudson, 96, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully at his home on September 26, 2011.
He was born in 1915 in Butler County to the late Earlis Jerome and Mary Etta Hudson.

Earlis graduated from Cromwell High School and attended Western Kentucky Teachers College. He moved to Owensboro and worked in the tobacco loose leaf warehouses until he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps in February 1942. He served for 31 months in a combat area as a B-25 Bomber Crew Chief. His tours included the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, Dutch Indies, Philippines, Okinawa and le Shima. After the war he went into the automobile business as an independent dealer. Then in 1957 he went to work for Harry Holder Ford-Lincoln-Mercury as a marketing manager. He retired as the general manager of Harry Holder Chrysler-Plymouth in 1985. Upon retirement he owned and operated Earlis Hudson Motors until 2006.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean Mattingly Hudson and his six siblings, Lois Black, Eula Crabb, Gladys Hudson, Glennie Pirtle, Thad Hudson and Victor Hudson.

Earlis is survived by two nieces, Janice Park of Owensboro and Judy Marynell of Newburgh, Indiana; three nephews, George Pirtle of Ohio County, Kentucky, Jerrel Hudson of Kalispell, Montana and Bobby Crabb of Boling, Texas; special friends, Rick Miller, Jackie and Bonnie Hudson, Theresa Roby and Clarence, Shirley and Gordon Caesbier.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. A 3:30 PM committal service will follow at Warren's Mill Cemetery in Butler County, Kentucky.
