Earl Edward McCarthy, Jr. 64, of Owensboro died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at his home. Born in Owensboro, a son of the late Earl Edward McCarthy, Sr. and Willie Mae Bray McCarthy, he was a retired self-employed painter, having worked at Texas Gas and the Roosevelt House, and attended Eaton Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed horse racing, NASCAR, and basketball and was a fan of Hank Williams, Jr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melinda McCarthy, his brothers, Charles McCarthy, George McCarthy, Jessie McCarthy, Robert Owen, and Donald Harry McCarthy, and his sister Mary Margaret Sumner.
Survivors include his daughters, Tracy Sanders, and Shari Duncan and her husband Jeff Pierce, all of Owensboro; his son Steve McCarthy and his wife Tiffany of Owensboro; his brother, James Richard McCarthy of Utica; his sisters, Sylvia (Donnie) Aldridge and Alice (Gene) Wermling of Owensboro; six grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Donna McCarthy.
Services, officiated by the Rev. Dennis McFadden, are at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home where visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Earl E. McCarthy, Jr. Memorial Fund, 900 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303.
