Dwight L. Estes

Dwight L. Estes, 65, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Nortons Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He was born on September 30, 1944 in Evansville, IN to the late Samuel and Elizabeth Beadnell Estes. He was retired from the Painter's Union Local #156 in Evansville and was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He had a very strong faith in God and loved his church, Christ Community Church where he was a member. He was involved with a small group with the church and they met regularly and he also volunteered for various programs including food ministries, one being the Angel Food ministry. Dwight had been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1985 and was a 12 year cancer survivor. He was a strong family man and loved spending a lot of time with them. He had also been involved with "Relay for Life" for several years, enjoyed auto racing at Ky Motor Speedway, the outdoors, and fishing. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Don Estes.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Deborah R. Estes, a son, David Estes of Owensboro, three daughters, Teri Lynn Voyles and husband Jeff of Rockport, IN, Karen English and husband Greg of Philpot, and Ruth Henderson and husband Gavin of Owensboro, 14 grandchildren, Aaron and Brandon Newcom, Landon and Brooklyn Voyles, Heather and Molly English, Hayden Grace Estes, Jessi Rock, Emily Estes, Cody Brooks, Tyler, Timothy, Amelia, and Adalynn Henderson, a brother, Nick Estes and wife Sandra of Rockport, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 14, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
