Dr. Paul Edward Truitt

Dr. Paul Edward Truitt, DVM, a beloved father, veterinarian, and Thoroughbred racehorse trainer, died unexpectedly following a fall on August 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to animals, racing, family, and the many people whose lives he touched.

Born in Owensboro, Kentucky on October 26, 1947, Paul devoted his life to veterinary medicine and Thoroughbred racing. He trained and raced Thoroughbreds and maintained a lifelong passion for bloodstock, breeding, pedigrees, and horse sales.

His career took him across Kentucky, Ohio, New York, and Tennessee, where he practiced veterinary medicine while remaining active in the racing community. While in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1973, he also served as one of the veterinarians who cared for Elvis Presley’s horses.

Paul was preceded in death by Salvacion Rosales Truitt; his parents, (Ersie) Mildred and Evans Truitt; his brothers, Donald, Charles, and Jerry Truitt; his son-in-law, Jeffrey Michael Guida; and his niece, Jacquie Snell-Miller.

He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Truitt Viglione, Tracy Anne Truitt, and Dr. Karen Nicole Guida; his grandchildren, Anna Truitt, Alexander Best, Liliana Guida, Gemma Guida, and Sienna “Cici” Guida; his brother, Joe Truitt; his sisters, Karen Gill, Linda Miller, and Brenda Jones; and his beloved cat, Ersie, whom Paul lovingly entrusted to the care of his brother Joe—which may well have been his last practical joke—along with extended family, friends, and colleagues.

Paul was deeply interested in love, people, and the connections he formed with others, guided by his spirituality and faith in love, trust, and the goodness within people. His spiritual outlook shaped the way he approached life and relationships, encouraging compassion, understanding, and a sense of connection with others. He was also known for his generosity and compassion, often helping people in need and giving freely of his time, resources, and support.

He will also be remembered for his intelligence, independence, determination, lifelong devotion to animals and Thoroughbred racing, his devotion to seeking truth and justice, his practical jokes and memorable antics, his irreverent and sometimes wildly inappropriate sense of humor, the laughter he brought to those around him, and his constant desire to expand his spiritual knowledge. unforgettable moment.

A private cremation will be held, and a Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
