Dr. James Anthony "Tony" Holder

Dr. James Anthony "Tony" Holder, 68, long-time Owensboro physician, unexpectedly passed away in Owensboro, KY into the presence of his Lord and Savior on October 24, 2024. He was born in Murfreesboro, TN in 1956 to the late Bob and Carol Holder (née DeBoe). As a child, he spent summers with beloved grandparents, the late J. R. “Grandy” and Alene “NaNa” DeBoe (née Butler) of Salem, KY. Tony attended Henderson County High School before completing undergraduate studies with a B.S. in Zoology at the University of Kentucky. 

Tony received his medical doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 1982 and completed a family medicine internship there in 1983. He later undertook a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, which he completed in 1990. Tony worked as an anesthesiologist for 22 years before returning to family medicine and eventually becoming board-certified in Addiction Medicine. From October 2021 until his passing, Tony treated and cared for patients at Daviess Treatment Services.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Rebecca Holder (née Cornett); cherished sister Cindy Howton (Brad); beloved son Nicholas Holder (Clare Gibbons); beloved daughter Kara Janes (Joe); and wonderful grandchildren, Graham (9), Rhett (8), Casper (5), and Daphne (3).

The visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 4:00 p.m on October 28, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory in Owensboro, KY.
