Dr. Dattatraya Somabhai Prajapati

Dr. Dattatraya Somabhai Prajapati, 72, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday October 13, 2023. He was born on December 1, 1950 to the late Somabhai and Narmada Prajapati in India. He and his wife Rita immigrated to the United States in the late 1970s and settled in Owensboro, KY in 1981. For over 40 years, Dr. Prajapati served Owensboro and the surrounding areas of Daviess, Perry and Ohio Counties as an oncologist, leading a private practice and working at the Owensboro Health System. He was an instrumental part of developing and opening the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center in Owensboro in 2005 and has touched the lives of thousands of patients and their families in our community. He also served on the board of the Owensboro Health System and was an active member and supporter of the Tri-State Hindu Temple.

Dr. Prajapati truly enjoyed playing golf and was a great sports enthusiast. He loved playing cards, traveling, gardening, and most importantly spending time with loved ones here and afar. He took great pride in his family life as husband, father, and grandfather. Over the years, he and his wife welcomed family to the United States with love and support to grow together here.

Dr. Prajapati is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rita Prajapati, his daughter Sheetal, his son Pratik and family, daughter-in-law Allison and his grandchildren Soma and Zahra as well as his sisters, Nayna Prajapati, Daksha Prajapati, Gita Dalwadi and their families. We also honor his late sister Baby Prajapati, who passed away earlier this year in India.
