Douglas Lee Thompson, 71, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Miami, Fl on January 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Virgil and Marguerite Thompson; was retired from the Jackson County, GA Sheriff's Department; was a bi-vocational Baptist Minister; and was a 12-year veteran of the Air Force serving in Alaska, the Philippine Islands, and Cambria, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Thompson.
Surviving are his wife, Ina Gambrel Thompson of Owensboro; children, Tim Thompson and his wife Julie of Owensboro, David Thompson and his wife Stephanie of Phoenix, AZ, and Tina Marie Humphrey of Cambria, CA; grandchildren, Alicia Thompson, Ross Thompson, Sierra Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Dusty Kenney, Austin Humphrey, Sophie Humphrey; step-grandchildren, Samantha Greenwood and Joe Greenwood; a great-grandchild, Ella Kenney; and a sister, Gloria Cain and her husband Clyde of Lake City, FL.
A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Family Worship Center, 600 Salem Dr., Owensboro, KY 42303. There will be no visitation. Private burial was in the Field of Honor at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Salvation Army or to the Family Worship Center.
