Douglas Dale Heltsley, 79, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Owensboro Regional Health Hospital. Born in Kirkmansville in Todd County, Kentucky, he graduated from the then Owensboro Technical High School and worked for 10 years at the Owensboro Body Shop. He retired from the Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History after 30 years as the museum's reptile specialist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. D.D. Heltsley in 1996 and his mother, Alice Margaret Heltsley in 2001.
Mr. Heltsley is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Dr. Charles Schertzinger of Owensboro; his niece, Carla Browning; his nephew Dr. John M. Schertzinger; his great nieces, Rebekah, Anna Kate, and Emma Schertzinger, and Dixie Browning; and special friends Hugh and Mary Ward. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the caring staff at One Park Place and the doctors and staff at the Mitchell Cancer Center.
The funeral service for Mr. Heltsley will be at 12:00 noon Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday and after 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
