Dorothy A. Stone

Dorothy A. Stone, age 88, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at her home, under the compassionate care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born on April 29, 1937, in Clay City, Kentucky.

Dorothy was a beloved figure to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth and kindness drew people to her, creating lasting friendships that felt like family. She was genuinely caring, always quick to lend a hand or share a kind word, whether with her church friends or her dear neighbors, who provided her with companionship and support throughout her life.

An avid coffee drinker, Dorothy cherished the simple pleasure of her morning cup of coffee to start her day. She had a keen eye for detail and took great pride in maintaining her home, reflecting her love for beauty and order. Before embracing her role as a dedicated stay-at-home mom, Dorothy enjoyed a vibrant career in fashion where she was a fashion model working the runway and working as an assistant buyer at the John Ross store in Middletown, OH. Known for her meticulous approach to her appearance, she would never leave the house without first applying her make-up, embodying the grace and elegance that defined her personality.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Weeda Tipton Mize; her husband of 63 years, John W. “Bill” Stone; and several brothers and sisters.

 Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Beth Reynolds (Butch) of Owensboro; a son, Jeff Stone (Nova Peters) of Owensboro; her grandchildren, Rachael Clark, Jonathan Stone and Matthew T.; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Mize (Helen); a sister, Wilma Lois Willoghby (Tony); several nieces and nephews; and her furry companion and faithful friend, Lilly. 

The funeral service for Dorothy Stone will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with Rev. Eddie Duke officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
