Dorothy Mae "Dot" Schartung, 72, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born on January 10, 1942 in Daviess Co., KY to the late Bernard and Georgia Cooper Henning. She was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church and was retired as a teacher in the Catholic School System having taught mainly the elementary grade levels. She was a friend to all and her door was always open and loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed making clothing and quilts for her grandchildren, and doing embroidery work. She also loved raising flowers, collecting Precious Moments statues, Mickey Mouse memorabilia, and had been a Boy Scout Leader for a number of years. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Patty Caler in 2010.
Surviving are her husband, James Schartung, her children, Dee (Brett) Aud-Skinner of California, Patti (David) Bartley of Owensboro, James Aud of Owensboro, Derek (Alissa) Schartung of Tennessee, Sonia (Darrell) McCarthy of Reynolds Station, Bradley (April) Schartung of Sorgho, and Brandy (Jay) Sord of Illinois, eight grandchildren, Josh, Travis, Meg, and Gabe Bartley, Justin, Hannah, and Gavin McCarthy, and Adam Schartung, two great grandchildren, Cendal and Layla Bartley, and three sisters, Mary Frances Keller, Jeanie Lindauer, and Debby Mulligan, all of Owensboro. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 11, at Immaculate Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Rersurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday with prayers at 6:00 P.M. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9:00 A.M. Friday at the church.
