Dorothy Louise Roberts

September 26, 1916 — June 19, 2015

Dorothy Louise (Terry) Roberts, 98, passed away Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. She had resided at The Bishop Soenneker Home for the past two years.

She was born on September 26, 1916 in Daviess County to the late Roy W. and Mary Hiteman Terry and was one of nine children. She married William Victor Roberts on February 1, 1938. They raised eleven children, while she often worked alongside her husband in the fields in the early years of their marriage, leaving the older children to care for the younger ones.

Dorothy enjoyed cooking and caring for her family, raising a big garden and canning as much of it as she could. She sewed for her children with patterns she made herself. As her children began school, she found the time to start her lifelong love of quilt making, which she continued to do until she was in her mid-80's. All of her children and many of her grandchildren are the grateful recipients of one of her beloved handmade quilts. Dorothy also loved her flowers and loved to dig and plant. She could never have too many flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and all of her siblings. Her husband of 56 years, William; three sons, Tommy, Larry, and Stevie; son-in-law, Thomas H. Fulkerson, granddaughter, Amy L. Fulkerson, and grandson, John L. Keller, Jr.

She will sadly be missed be her children, Betty A. (Tom) Mahoney of New Albany, IN, Shirley Fulkerson, Bill E. Roberts, both of Owensboro, Mary Jane Guilfoyle of Greensboro, NC, Jim V. (Phyllis) Roberts of Owensboro, Judy C. (Larry) McCarty of Knottsville, Michael J. (Judy) Roberts of Owensboro, and Paul J. Roberts of Owensboro, 29 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-6PM Sunday June 21, 2015 and after 8:30 Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be 10AM Monday at St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Raphael's Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Bishop Soenneker Home for the wonderful care she received while residing there and making her last years happy. We also wish to thank Hospice of Western Kentucky for their gentle care of our mother these last weeks.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to The Bishop Soenneker Home and Hospice of Western Kentucky.
