Dorothy Payne

Dorothy Agnes Barrett Payne, 87, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at her home surrounded by her large, loving, and devoted family. She was born December 22, 1930 to the late Victor and Bessie Mae Barrett. Dorothy was a lifelong devout Catholic. She, with her husband Harles, were co-owners of Kid Krossing Day Care and were instrumental in establishing St. Pius X Day Care and kindergarten. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, and was a charter member of the Cackling Hens Bunco Group for 49 years. She was a member of the Owensboro Quilters Guild. Dorothy was a very loving wife, she dearly loved her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harles Richard Payne; her brothers, Robert Leo Barrett, Thomas Barrett, and Billy Barrett; her sisters, Mary Evans, Marie Beyke, Martina Harley, and Laura Jo Washle; her granddaughters, Cammie Howard and Jamie Higdon.
Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Hayden (Greg) of Owensboro, Carol Higdon of Georgetown, KY, and Marcia Howard (Keith) of Owensboro; her sons, Stephen Richard Payne (Carla) of Louisville, KY, Kevin Charles Payne (Christina) of South Carolina, and Christopher Barrett Payne (Cheryl) of Owensboro; her 22 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Sister Ann Barrett S.L. of Nerinx, KY; her brother, Jerry Barrett (Mickey) of Georgetown, IN.
The funeral mass will be 11AM Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Fr. Mike Clark will officiate. Visitation will be 2-8PM Friday with prayers at 7PM and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
