Dorothy Marie Owsley, 88, of Owensboro passed away Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Daviess County on October 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Bertha Wade Potts; was a homemaker; and was a member of First Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for 20 years and was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. Affectionately known as "Boots" by her family, she loved children and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Owsley loved to travel especially vacationing with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Reginald O. Owsley, Jr. in 1980, an infant son, Martin Jay Owsley, a son, Michael Owsley, Sr. in 2001, and twin brothers, William Potts and Tom Potts.
Surviving are daughters, Barbara (Tom) Beane of Maceo and Jane (John) Miller of Owensboro; a daughter-in-law, Jane Owsley Howard; grandchildren, Becky (Lee) Howard of Santa Clarita, CA, Michael (Amy) Owsley, Jr. of Nashville, Aaron Beane of Owensboro, Andrew Owsley of Nashville, Jason Miller of Louisville, and Jeff Miller of Owensboro; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Sue Mattingly of Owensboro; a brother-in-law, Charles (Josie) Owsley of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2011 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Jacob Caldwell officiating followed by burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
