Dorothy Jean Howell

Dorothy "Dot" Jean Howell, 89, of Owensboro went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 5, 2014. She was born on January 25, 1925 to the late Edward Ranson Gabriel and the late Bertha Leona Bell. Dorothy was an Executive Secretary to the President at Kentucky Wesleyan College. She was a member and past president of United Methodist Women, a member and board member of Owensboro Women's Club, Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History, and the Preservation Alliance. She and her husband were also dedicated volunteers for the Department of the Blind. She and her Robert loved to travel and spend time with their family.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly seventy years, Robert Donald Howell; daughter, Nancy Howell; brothers Edward Gabriel and Fred Gabriel and grandchildren Savannah Marie Howell, Stephen Aaron Howell, and Meredith Holman Howell.

She is survived by her sons, Robert (Beni) Howell Jr. of Centreville, Virginia, Edward (Diane) Howell of St. Louis, Mo., Clifton (Sarah) Howell of Jacksonville, AK.; a daughter, Katherine Howell of Owensboro; her grandchildren, Samantha Howell, Robert Howell, III, Cole Howell, Sarena Howell, Christina Marie Thompson and Elena Rachelle Lott; her great-grandchildren, Sophia Braun, Spencer Braun, and Sydney Braun; and brother, Norris Gabriel of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday May 10, 2014 at Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time of service on Saturday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Settle Memorial United Methodist Women or Kentucky Wesleyan College.
