Dorothy Jean Bryant Carpenter, age 88, died at her home on July 8, 2012. Jean was born on June 21, 1924 to Samuel Jefferson Bryant and Martine Norton Bryant. Jean was an honor graduate at St. Francis Academy. She married John Albert Carpenter, Sr. on February 15, 1942. After 69 years of marriage, John preceded her in death on August 28, 2011. She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Betty Bryant Kerrick.
Jean was a life-long member of St. Stephen Cathedral where she served on the Altar Society. Jean was a city girl but briefly moved to the country as a new bride. She was a member of the Owensboro Cotillion Club (later renamed Junior League of Owensboro) and was active in the school and sports parent organizations at Owensboro Catholic Schools.
Jean is survived by sons, John Albert Carpenter, Jr. ( Sherry) of Lexington, Jefferson Bryant Carpenter (Marcia) of Owensboro, James Ellis Carpenter (Susan) of Louisville.
Jean is also survived by her grandchildren, Frances Jean Carpenter, Ginger Carpenter Williams (Brent), Joy Carpenter Allen, Jefferson Bryant Carpenter II, James Ellis Carpenter, Jr., Caroline Ruschell (Joe), Christopher Bryant Carpenter (Alex), Clay Cassidy Carpenter (Meghan), John Kuegel Harralson. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Cameron Grant Williams, Bryant Abell Williams, Merrie Katherine Allen, Julianna Frances Allen, Christopher Alexander Carpenter, Lucas Mateo Carpenter, Charlotte Grace Ruschell.
