Doris Jean Callahan

Doris J. Callahan, 87, of Owensboro passed away early Monday, November 20, 2023, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Muhlenberg County native was born February 17, 1936, to the late Oscar Pratt Thompson and Ina Devine Thompson. Doris lived on a 300-acre farm with her late first husband, Wendell Young. She donated the property to the Fairview Baptist Church in Olaton for the cemetery in which she and Wendell will be laid to rest. Doris did a lot of canning vegetables and always commented that you never knew when there would be another economic depression. She owned several rental properties and a Bed and Breakfast in Beaver Dam.

In addition to her parents, Doris was also preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, Jim Callahan in 2015; daughter, Sharon Sharp in 1998; and sister, Freda Myers Edwards.

Survivors include her two daughters, Vicki Young Espino of Melbourne, Florida and Patty Coppage of Cocoa Beach, Florida; sisters, Judy Morris and Nancy Ferguson; four grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.    

Arrangements for Doris Callahan are private. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.

Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery in Olaton.
