Donna Thompson Stuerzenberger, 80, of Owensboro, passed away November 19, 2015 at the Carmel Home surrounded by family, and now has joined the Lord in eternal life. Donna was born November 19, 1935 in Flora, IL to the late John F. and Fern Delaney Thompson. She was a secretary at Precious Blood Catholic Church and School for many years. She owned and operated Donna's Stitchery Nook until she retired in 1997. Donna was a 17 year breast cancer survivor. She was an active member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and was a 2004 recipient of the Sophia Award. Donna was a member of Busy Bee Homemaker Club and was a founding member of the Owensboro Quilt Guild. She loved cross stitching, sewing, and was an avid quilter. Donna enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Stuerzenberger; sister, Judith Harper; brother, John Robert Thompson, and a grandson, Jonathon Phelps.
Survivors include her son, Mike (Devona) Stuerzenberger of Owensboro; daughters, Kathy (Phil) Carr, Mary (Pete) Arnold, of Owensboro, Patti (Dan) Searle of Dieterich, IL, and Lisa (Jimmy) Phelps of Whitesville; eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday, 1-6:00 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayer will be Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to The Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Rd, Owensboro, KY 42303. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
